WATER:
A Critical substance to Covid-19 Extinction

The deprivation of Africans of safe pipe borne water, consistently delivered at point of use, void of on-the-line contaminants either by the means of conveyance or operating personnel will slow down our quest to curb the ravaging Covid-19.

Knowing that availability of water is critical to the prevention, management and extinction of the scourge.

Water, a lot of it, in quantity and quality is required for hand washing, household cleaning, domestic use, drinking and general consumption.

Indisputably, provision and distribution of water, readily available, in quality of required standard to satisfy the purpose of use is essential to combat the spread of the novel coronavirus. Whereas, in Africa, very little of the available water meets this standard.

The standard of drinking water as specified by WHO is in accordance to the functions of water  in the body.
Which include: supporting important chemical reaction in the body, assisting bio-chemical process in the body, aiding formation of membrane surrounding cells and transporting food particles to parts of the body.

Water that will perform these functions must be at its highest Physico-chemical and microbiological quality because a compromised quality will be disastrous and more infectious than the dreaded pandemic it ought to extinct.

All attempts therefore, to tackle coronavirus disease or any other disease must be accompanied with strategic and delibrate policy to provide citizens with abundant clean and safe water.

Engaging the citizens with an elaborate enlightment campaign on water sanitation, water safety and water handling, will definitely catalyse our  victory over the scourge.

Moreover, water sourcing, packaged water processing and water vendors must be monitored, to see that they practise their trade under strict regulations.

Water regulatory officers should also be accorded "essential services" status in order to effectively succeed in their  duties during a period like this, when general movements are restricted.
